CLUBSWAN MEMBERS EXPERIENCE – Restoring Swan 37 Elixir

Max Campbell, a young passionate English sailor, shares with us the story of the restoration of S&S Swan 37 Elixir.

Max found her at the back of a boatyard in Mylor, deep in winter: “She had been neglected for quite a long time. Along with a group of friends, I built a shed and began to restore her.

Over an 11 month period, we gave her a completely new paint job, inside and outside. We replaced all the teak and aluminum deck fittings, and polished up the stainless steel. We rebuilt the rudder, and did a handful of fiberglass repairs, and now she looks really good.

My friends and I are now planning on completing a circumnavigation on her. We are all between 24-26, and are sailors, photographers, scientists and writers. Everyone’s really excited to go sailing, and Elixir’s the prefect boat for the voyage.”

They plan to leave their home town of Falmouth in December, to head out on this epic new adventure.
