Sailing beyond the horizons: the story of Fancy

Could you tell us the story of how you bought your Swan 108? What inspired your choice and what does this boat mean to you?

The purchase of Fancy was the culmination of extensive consideration. After several years sailing on a 62-footer, we needed a boat that would suit our family’s needs. We wanted plenty of space for our five children, a boat that was both easy to handle and comfortable, and a layout that would allow us to enjoy quality time at sea. As we gradually increased the size of our boats, it became clear that the Swan 108 offered the ideal balance of size, cost and simplicity.

The theme of this year’s magazine is “Passion as a state of mind.” Have you always been passionate about sailing and the sea? How did your passion begin? Can you tell us more about what fuels this passion and drives you to discover new places?

Our passion for the sea has been a lifelong journey. From our youth, we were immersed in sailing schools and coastal adventures. After years of one-design racing, it felt natural to share our maritime experiences with family and loved ones. The sea is one of the last bastions of freedom. Even though, as it should be, there are rules to follow, it remains a domain where we can indulge in the joys of discovery, exploration, and cultural enrichment.
