Swan American Regatta postponed to 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the New York Yacht Club to postpone 2020 Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex, which was to include the Swan American Regatta, from its scheduled dates of July 14 to 18 to a to-be-determined date in September. As September is quite a busy month for Nautor's Swan, including the Rolex Swan Cup in Sardinia among other European events, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 edition of the Swan American Regatta
Last June, for the first time in over a decade, Nautor’s Swan hosted the Swan American Regatta in the iconic setting of Newport as part of the New York Yacht Club's 165th Annual Regatta, North America's oldest annual event. The three-day regatta was a success, and earlier this year Nautor's Swan and the Club agreed to host the regatta each summer through 2022.
“Our American Swan owners are very important for us, and we want to be sure they feel like they are a part of our family,” says Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Group CEO. “This year we are not able to be part of the event, but we remain committed to reestablishing the Swan American Regatta as an annual tradition in the United States. We look forward to sailing with our American Swan owners in 2021 and enjoying the fun and the excitement that is fundamental to the Spirit of Swan”.

The upcoming edition of the Rolex Swan Cup, the most awaited event of the season this September, will see the showcase of the current Swan Line in its entirety on the starting line. The new Swan 48 will be represented by, Mia and Ohana, the bluewater Swan 54 by Mohbarak V and Katima. We will also see Swan 65 and a Swan 78, respectively Cuordisole and Kinina, racing together in the breathtaking setting of Porto Cervo.
Guest star will be the new just-launched Swan 98, making her first appearance and certainly set to be the star of the show.
Joining the event will mean to deep dive in the Swan world.

Swan 115 Shamanna from Panama to New Zealand

Daniel Calascione, Swan 115 Shamanna skipper, shares with us the diary he used to send to family members documenting the trip from Panama to the Galapagos Islands. Enjoy!
“Chapter 1 – The Panama Canal
[…] The Panama Canal’s strategic purpose is clear. Why sail thousands of miles in treacherous waters when you can cut right through the Americas. [..]
1600 Enter lock 1. A chamber with the purpose of lifting ships up to 350 metres in length 10 metres above sea level. We were accompanied by a large cargo vessel. Shortly after entering and making off lines the giant lock doors swing majestically behind us closing us off from what was. Almost immediately after the Atlantic side is shut off the flood gates in front open allowing 26 million litres of fresh water to fill up the chamber and we rise up ten metres. We do this process three times until we are 30 metres above the Atlantic Ocean. The last set of lock doors open us into a dusked tranquil lake scattered with jungle infested islands. Gatun Lake. The lake that just exclusively provided us with 75 million litres of fresh rain water just to get halfway through the canal. After motoring through the jungle for two hours we anchor for the night and our pilot gets picked up. I can’t describe the surrealistic feeling of waking up the next morning anchored in the lake above and between the oceans, surrounded by dense jungle noises with towering 300 metre cargo vessels gliding past our small anchorage. Sanitizing the yacht

In this period of unexpected risks, Aon, in the context of coordinating care and assistance to its Customers, has defined a strategy highlighting particular attention to the state of cleanliness and sanitization of our clients’ yachts.
With the restart of nautical activities, in fact, many owners have benefited from the assistance of external professionals for the control of the engine, systems, rigging etc. and cannot be sure that these people have not been infected by the virus.  Protecting one's own health, that of relatives and friends, has almost become an obligation.
Today, services of all kinds, quality and prices are available on the market.  Aon is pleased to assist its customers with any information on the companies that are able to guarantee a fast and effective service with the appropriate certifications.  Depending on the type of yacht, the service is adapted so that nothing is left to chance.
