Nautor’s Swan Experience
Marina di Scarlino, October 16th - 20th

The Swan Experience, held for the first time in the luxury setting of the Marina di Scarlino, was conceived to provide a complete insight into the Swan world. “We have worked very hard to develop Swan as a global brand through all areas of our activities,” explained Nautor’s Swan Chairman Leonardo Ferragamo. “The Swan Experience here in Scarlino has provided us with the first real opportunity to showcase all of these aspects and how they relate. This includes our craftsmanship, the many elegant and innovative models and ranges, the One Design racing, the brokerage and charter services as well as the Global Customer Care Service.” One core aspect of The Swan Experience was the Private Boat Show which provided Swan owners and guests with the rare opportunity to admire a range of models from the marque’s proud history. On display were the Swan 48, Swan 54, Swan 65, Swan 70, Swan 75, Swan 78 and the Swan 115.
Guests also had the possibility to visit the Nautor’s Swan Global Service in Scarlino, the new star of the brand born to assist clients 24/7, where the team was available to explain all the services offered. The Swan Experience was organized with the full respect of health and safety regulations, and this was a key ingredient of the relaxed atmosphere for the guests, who were able to entertain themselves with test drives powered by Automobili Lamborghini, the beautiful Art Exhibition, Mare, by Roberto Ghezzi, which underlines the sustainable commitment of the brand hand in hand with Marevivo.
The event saw the participation of other high-end partners who contributed to the success of the “experience”: AON, Automobili Lamborghini, Banor, Bottega Conticelli, Ferrari Trento, Disaronno, Garmin, Marevivo, Michela Nicoli, North Sails, Quantum Sails, Rigoni D’Asiago, Sease and UYN.
The Swan Experience will continue to evolve and is scheduled to return next year.

Swan One Design Worlds
Marina di Scarlino, October 13th to 17th

Among the week’s class winners have been German yacht Hatari with Owner Marcus Brennecke crowned the new ClubSwan 50 world champion. The Swan 45 worlds was claimed by Lennard van Oeveren’s Dutch entry Motions. Competing for the Gold Cup, Cetilar-Vitamina was the triumphant ClubSwan 36. The same boats also claimed The Nations League 2020 prizes (calculated on combined Swan One Design Worlds and Swan Tuscany Challenge points).
Owners and sailors appreciated the seismic efforts organizers made in ensuring safe competition was possible in the current climate. After a much-disrupted season, the event, attended by 26 yachts, provided a much welcome dose of camaraderie for the Swan family.

ClubSwan 50:
“We are very happy,” explained Hatari owner Marcus Brennecke. “We had lots of fun and showed great crew work – as a team and as individuals. It is a very competitive class with nice people and a good spirit.”

Lennard van Oeveren, Motions owner, was understandably proud. “This is fantastic. We have been building for years and gradually improving our level. We don’t sail with a lot of professionals so it is real Corinthian sailing.”

CLUBSWAN STORIES

ClubSwan 50 Stella Maris described by her owner August Schram

By a funny coincidence, the emblems (flags) of two cities my family calls home in two separate countries show the same signs: A star on top and water below. Both are references to "Stella Maris", the Name that Christian Seafarers have given to the Pleiades, a star cluster visible to the naked eye on the night sky. They were seeing in it the virgin Mary, who would guide them safely home. This invisible guidance is also what we seek, therefore we called our boat Stella Maris.
Of course the Pleiades are much older than Christianity (125 million years older). Before the Christians, the Celts used them for orientation and navigation. They devoted a character in the shape of three circles and four bars connected with a horizontal line for the Pleiades, symbolizing the three big and four smaller stars that are visually dominant in the constellation (the whole star cluster contains about 1200 stars). This Celtic sign is what you can see at the stern of Stella Maris.
Since the Celts where a deeply mythical and spiritual tribe, their symbols can have portentous impacts and are sometimes sacred and sometimes cursed. We of course made sure with the help of shamanic experts, that we do not load an invisible burden on us by putting the sign on the boat!
And it is indeed quite the opposite. As for the Christians, also for the Celts, the Pleiades were a certain point of orientation in uncertain times.

AON CORNER

The Shipyard Clause in Hull and Machinery policies

In this period in which many Owners are arranging to bring their yacht to the Shipyard, to carry out regular maintenance or exceptional refit works, it is good to know that your hull and machinery Insurers may require to be informed with a minimum 48 hours’ notice.
The Owner of the yacht must also ensure that the Shipyard has an adequate Liability policy covering the damages potentially applicable tothe yachts with a limit equal to at least half of the value of the boat.
In the event that the Shipyard requires a waiver of subrogation by Hull and Machinery Insurers (of course excluding the case of willful misconduct or gross negligence), it is necessary to obtain a copy of the Shipyard's Legal Liability policy to double check the limit in force under such policy, since Hull and Machinery Insurers are used to waive rights of subrogation against the Shipyard only in excess of the Shipyard's Legal Liability Policy Limit.
