Swan American Regatta
June 14th to 16th - Newport, RI (USA)

After 12 years since the last edition, Nautor’s Swan returned to the iconic setting of Newport (Rhode Island) on the occasion of the 165th Annual Regatta, North America's oldest annual regatta. Three great days of racing including the separately scored Around-the-Island Race on Friday, June 14.
After a lovely Welcome Cocktail, held in the famous Station Ten, the very first NYYC Clubhouse, where Swan Owners could get together after such a long time, Friday 14 June saw the entire fleet take part in the traditional around the island race, a circumnavigation of Conanicut Island. In the Swan class, Lincoln Mossop’s ClubSwan 42, The Cat Came Back, took the win on corrected time by under two minutes from Heidi Herlihy and Todd Barbera’s Swan 56 Tramontana, which in turn got the better of Barleycorn by a mere 3 seconds.
Friday night saw the Owners Dinner, an extraordinary moment of friendship, in the perfect ClubSwan atmosphere, where Swan Owners could sharethe excitement of being together once again, in the wonderful setting of NYYC Harbour Court.
After three days of racing, the winner of the Swan American Challenge Trophy was Brendan Brownyard’s ClubSwan 42, Barleycorn, which came top of the 12-boat fleet.
Winners of the special prizes were:

  • BEST MAINTAINED SWAN: Swan 66 Bounty (Gibb Kane), following evaluation by the Nautor’s Swan Authorized Service Center, Jamestown Boat Yard
  • FARTHEST-TRAVELED SWAN: Swan 43 Akela 3 (Djoerd Hoekstra), from Annapolis, Maryland, which had taken part in the Annapolis to Newport Race, securing a well-deserved 3rd place in ORR2
