Dear Friends,

I felt compelled to open this month’s newsletter to send you a personal message wishing all the best to you, your families and beloved ones.
An emergency like this is unparalleled in history and Coronavirus is deeply changing our lives and habits. We are hoping and sure everything will be back on track, but at the moment we are all concerned about what we are going through and what the new normality will be. In the many contacts we have had in this difficult period by our ClubSwan members we received their plea to keep on supporting their dreams even in these difficult times.
My message goes also to the more than 350 employees at Nautor’s as a big “thank you”, they are working hard to ensure that our fine yachts production can go through this critical time without major delays. With this in mind we’d like to share with you a selection of images of our iconic event, Rolex Swan Cup.
We must think positive and we look forward to meeting you soon sailing the Ocean!

Your sincerely
Giovanni Pomati
NAUTOR’S HOLDING CEO

RACING

First leg of The Nations League Med has been postponed

Nautor’s Swan and ClubSwan teams are fully focused on minimizing the effects the Corona Virus might have on the racing calendar.
We have decided to postpone the first event of the circuit, which was also the debut of the ClubSwan 36 class with more than 10 yachts participating.
The ACI Cup, in partnership with ACI Marina, which should have been held in Rovinj, from May 6th to 10th has been postponed to November 3rd – 7th.
For events not directly organized by ClubSwan, all important elements of THE NATIONS LEAGUE circuit for Swan One Design Classes, the Organizing Authorities will decide the best way to proceed conforming to the relevant national Law. Therefore, ClubSwan reserves the right to decide whether to keep these events within the circuit to allow equal attendance to the teams, granting the spirit of fair competition between nations.
This is the case with PalmaVela, which has been just postponed by the Real Club Nautico de Palma, while for Rolex Giraglia and Copa del Rey Mapfre, we will inform you accordingly.

40th Heineken Regatta
March 5th - 8th, St. Maarten

149 yachts, competing in 17 classes set sail for four days of competition in the windswept waters off St. Maarten. Swan yachts racing this year included Swan 48 Avocation, Swan 48 Montana, Swan 66 Enigma VIII, and Swan 80 Umiko, fresh from her 600 mile race in the RORC Caribbean 600.
Umiko obtained 2nd place in CSA 1 Class. Sean McCarter, Umiko’s skipper, has shared with us the crew’s experience:
“Umiko crossed the pond once again this winter racing the ARC Transatlantic – she’s the ideal boat to be competitive on the racecourse whilst maintaining those home comforts and luxury expected from a superyacht.
[...] Captain Sean McCarter adds, “Umiko’s second Heineken regatta in as many years was a blast. Although missing Selene, our Swan 80 sister-ship and sparring partner from last year, we had great competition from Fra Diavolo and the legendary girls on Maiden.
With Philip Rann on strategy and tactics, we improved constantly throughout the regatta as a team. Our next big goal is a result in the Swan Cup in Porto Cervo this September. “

AON CORNER
THE PROTECTION & INDEMNITY POLICY

When considering the renewal of the insurance cover relating to your boats, we believe it useful to present to you the advantages of taking out P&I (Protection & Indemnity) insurance compared to the traditional liability insurance policy.
This type of policy is recommended especially for those who use a professional crew or use their own boat for charter activities.
In addition to the compulsory coverage of damages involuntarily caused to third parties by navigation or storage of the vessel, the P&I policy covers - by way of example:

  • any sum that the owner of the boat is required to pay to the crew as compensation for injury or for medical treatment expenses, including expenses incurred and for their replacement, disembarkation and repatriation for injury or illness;
  • any sum that the owner of the boat is required to pay to third parties for damage caused by collision with another vessel, or collision with fixed and / or floating objects or indirectly for wake or wave motion;
  • the cost of removing the wreckage of your yacht;
  • damage from environmental pollution caused by hydrocarbons or other pollutants, including damages and fines;
  • for damage to third parties as a result of the use of tenders, jet skis or other sports / recreational equipment used in conjunction with the yacht;
  • the risks related to towing your boat;
  • the costs for the shipowner's legal defense in the event of a complaint by a third party.

The aforementioned cover which may be provided for a limit of at least 500 million dollars, complies with the requirements of the Maritime Labor Convention, offers a first-rate assistance service thanks to the network of correspondents worldwide and provides for the issue of certificates and marks in Italian, Greek and Spanish.
