RORC Caribbean 600
February 24th, Antigua
With five examples of Nautor's Swan participating, the 2020 RORC Caribbean 600 wrapped up on February 28 in the stunning setting of the Eastern Caribbean.
After a sublime start and a reach up to Barbuda in beautiful conditions, the majority of the fleet found themselves trapped by the wind shadow of Barbuda, only to see the breeze build again for the second part of the course.
With a 8th place in Line Honours Monohull, Swan 95 Lot99 was the fastest Swan Yacht. Nevertheless, with a 7th place in IRC overall the best-placed Swan iwas Placido Arango’s Swan 65 Libélula, which was awarded the Swan Caribbean Challenge Trophy during the final prize-giving. This classic 1975 Swan 65 has been restored by Nautor’s Swan Authorised Service Center EMV Marine. Good job also for Swan 60 Lee Overlay Partners II was 13th and Swan 80 Umiko 24th.

CLUBSWAN MEMBERS EXPERIENCE
Swan 41 Cara Mia adventure in the UAE
Mr. Elomaa has shared with us the account of his cruising in the United Arab Emirates:
"Nearly two years of warm (and sometimes hot) waters of the Arabian Gulf have now passed with s/y Cara Mia. During this time there has been very sunny and mellow day sailing involved, without long passages. The “longest” sailing has been done between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which after Cara Mia’s passages in Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, seems way too short to even mention. The sea off the UAE coast is very shallow, which gives small choppy waves providing some challenges amongst non-experienced crew members compromised of the owner’s work colleagues. The sailing community in Abu Dhabi isn’t too active, so one gets the sea to himself, as long as one keeps some distance from the oil rigs and watches out for speeding jet skis next to shore. While going out for day sailing the only ones keeping company are the curious pack of humpback dolphins, which follows for a while. And once we even got greeted by full grown dugong.
Now that we still have some winter left and cooler weather, Cara Mia is going out for weekend sailing and looking forward to our next passage, which could occur in early 2021, or earlier. Until then, it is time to meet up again with those humpback dolphin friends."
