RACING
Rolex Sydney Hobart Race
Swan 43 Santana and Swan 65 Eve participated in the last edition of this iconic race.
Mr. Steve Capell, owner of Swan 65/35 "Eve" commented on their participation with these words: << “Eve” competed in her third Sydney-Hobart race this year, the 75th anniversary of the race. The winds weren't really in our favour so results weren't as good as previous years such as the 2017 race where we won two trophies. However, we had a wonderful sail in a variety of mostly light conditions. One lesson for me was our performance in very light airs in Storm Bay where we sailed the grand old lady like a dinghy, chasing every puff and doing maybe 20 kite gybes. We overtook at least 12 other boats and often achieved 4 or 5 knots of boat speed in only 4 knots of wind. The grand old lady can still get up and go! Our next adventure is a big loop of the south pacific starting with Sydney-Tahiti via New Zealand and Isle Gambier. We'll do the Tahiti Pearl regatta and cruise around a bit then come back for another go at the 2020 Sydney-Hobart race!We are calling our adventure "SwanningAround".>>

AON CORNER
A focus on the damage suffered by third parties and Extraordinary Event claims.
An ongoing risk to yacht owners is the potential damage caused by third party vessels who may damage your yacht. In this case, we would like to provide you wtith some advice to protect yourselves as far as possible. Firsty, even though the the third party may seem cooperative, it is highly recommended to take some photos of his boat its license plate (if applicable), the damage suffered and also of the third party’s ID card and if possible, obtain a declaration of his fault in the incident.
If the the third party is not keen to provide his data, another possible solution is to notify the Port Authority of the incident or to the consulate if the accident takes place abroad. This procedure is mandatory in the cases of collision, fire, injury or death, rescue, aid or salvage of another vessel. It is important to take into consideration that the Port Authority may demand the withdrawal of the parties’ sailing licenses. For this reason, if there is no harm to the crew or guests and the buoyancy condition of the Vessel is not compromised, you may decide to act in a different way.
An alternative course of action is to send to the Port Authority a CEM (Certified E-Mail) with the full details of the incident and only if the necessity arises, they will summon you or verify the scale of the damage.Only then are they entitled to temporarily withdraw your sailing license.
If the safety of any individual has not been compromised, the deadline to submit the claim is 72 hours from the incident; otherwise, it must be filed within 24 hours. Transgressors will be subjected to an administrative fine of € 100, so once you have verified that there is no significant damage or injury you may choose to continue navigation, and at a later stage, forward the claim with the payment of the penalty.
