BMW, TORQEEDO AND NAUTOR’S SWAN: THE PERFECT COMBINATION

Nautor’s Swan, BMW and Torqeedo are combining forces to deliver a new high-performance and fossil fuel-free sailing experience. Torqeedo has developed an inboard version of its proven Cruise 10.0 electric drive system as auxiliary propulsion for the new ClubSwan 36 one-design racer by Nautor’s Swan.
The highly efficient, 20 horsepower equivalent Cruise 10.0 electric drive is clean, quiet and emission-free, powered by state-of-the-art lithium batteries with technology by BMW i. The propeller is retracted while racing but can be deployed while under sail.
“The innovative ClubSwan 36 is the optimal platform and Nautor’s Swan the ideal partner for this three-way cooperation to develop a zero-emission electric inboard system with a retractable prop.” said Dr. Christoph Ballin, CEO of Torqeedo.
“The innovative ClubSwan 36, together with the experience of Torqeedo with electric engines and the support of BMW for battery packs, will represent the beginning of a new era. We couldn’t find better partners to develop this project as we are all working towards reaching the best experience for our customers.”commented Enrico Chieffi, Nautor’s Swan Vice President.
The official debut of the exciting new ClubSwan 36 will be next May. In June the ClubSwan 36 will be on display in St Tropez during the Rolex Giraglia Cup and in July she will attend the Copa del Rey. After a stop over at the Genova Boat Show, a fleet of 5 ClubSwan 36s will officially race their first Swan One Design Event during the The Nations Trophy in Palma de Mallorca (October 8th/12th).

CLUBSWAN MEMBERS EXPERIENCE

ClubSwan 42 Selene Alifax: not only sailing…

When in winter-time, sailing can be a bit tough, if your home port is not so far away from the wonderful Dolomites and your racing team is both keen on sailing and skiing… nothing can be better than a team-building experience on snow.
On Jan 3rd, 2019 the usual party for Selene Alifax crew, suppliers, supporters and sponsors (Alifax Spa and Consorzio del Prosecco doc) took place at Gilberti lodge (1850 masl) in Sella Nevea (UD, Italy).
As usual, the first rendez-vous was on Bila Pec track where the skiing competition took place for two key awards: one for the best overall time (Honor Line) and the other one for the least time difference between the two heats (Zebra Trophy).
Once the competition was over, everybody reached the lodge where Irene welcomed them with great enthusiasm. After the showing of the videos about the spectacular regattas held in Palma de Mallorca and Porto Cervo and after the team manager Alberto Leghissa presented the 2019 Selene program, the awards for the ski competition and the Gin & Tonic Trophy took place. This is a special award where any crew member causing harm on Selene, besides being obliged to buy a gin & tonic for each member of the crew, is nominated for the Gin &Tonic Trophy.
After the aperitif, the chefs Fabio Tschurwald and Daniele Cortiula served an unforgettable dinner (Andrea Carloni defined it as “moving”) which, as a tradition, features game hunted by the owner.
Then it was time for the fantastic DJ Zipo to do his thing and everybody jumped up onto the dance floor to transform the quiet Gilberti lodge withmusic, dancing and laughter.
Once the party was over, some descended to the valley on skis by torchlight, others by snowmobile, others overnighting at the lodge; however, after such an amazing party, the whole crew declared themselvesready for the next season onboard Selene with the expectation of more fun and of course winning the next regattas.

Swan Classic by Frers

In 2019 the Swan Classic by Frers Association activity is growing rapidly; in fact, after its debut during the last Rolex Swan Cup, the event program will be significantly expanded.
In the Mediterranean Sea the Swan Classic by Frers yachts will attend the regattas organized by Nautor’s Swan in collaboration with our iconic partner Rolex; namely Rolex Capri Sailing Week, Rolex Giraglia, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Rolex Middle Sea Race.
Last year, it was during the Middle Sea Race that these Classic Swans made their mark. Lunz an Meer owned by Marietta Strasoldo lead impressively until halfway through the race when unfortunately some technical issues occurred.
The owner of this lovely Swan 651 states “Our performance demonstrates that these classic yachts – if well tuned – are still competitive in important and varied fleets such as in the last Rolex Middle Sea Race. The performance of Swan 68 Yacana was very impressive too.
Our yachts represent one of the benchmarks of the contemporary yachting world and we have to take care of them, set them up and let them participate in regattas”
