SWAN'S THRIVE IN BREEZY COWES

Another successful Cowes Week came to a close on Saturday featuring a total of 896 entries. Across the IRC Classes there were a total of ten Swan entries who would also be competing for the coveted Nautor’s Swan Trophy. The week saw unpredictable and typically English weather and the winds gave rise to a challenging mixture of extremes combined with an enjoyable regular south westerly. The fresh winds, however, enabled some fast and furious racing.

Stephen James’ Swan 37 Jacobite revelled in the blustery Solent conditions at this year’s Cowes Week to take overall 2nd place in IRC Class 6. With 33 yachts competing in the Class, the Jacobite team had a tactical week and narrowly missed out on first place by two points. In IRC Class 1 Swan 45 Wisc also had an impressive week finishing in 4th place in a 33 strong fleet fighting off strong competition from fellow Swan 411 Accomplice who finished in 13th.

The prized Nautor’s Swan Trophy was won by Jacobite for the second year running.

Overall results for the Nautor’s Swan Trophy during Cowes Week 2010 are as follows:

1. Jacobite – Stephen James
2. Wisc – Glynn Williams
3. Desperado – Richard Loftus
4. Brevity – Mark Devereux
5. Accomplice – Ray Mitchell
6. Bewick of Cowes
7. Wizard – David Miller
8. Lutine – Lloyds Yacht Club
9. Northern Child – Christian Reynolds
10. Swan Galiana – Patrick Green
