SWAN NORTH EUROPEAN CHALLENGE FINALE

Cowes Week, 31 July – 7 August, is the final event in the Swan North European Challenge. The Nautor’s Swan Challenge series includes premier international sailing events for Swan owners to compete in whilst also competing for the coveted Challenge Asprey trophy. This year the Swan North European Challenge included the North Sea Regatta, including the North Sea Race, the RORC Cowes – Dinard – St Marlo Race, with Cowes Week being the final and compulsory event.

The Swan North European Challenge incorporates Cowes Week as it enables Swan sailors with the opportunity to race in the world’s most historic and successful yachting event. Cowes Week has been running since 1826 from Cowes, Isle of Wight, and over the years, royalty, celebrities, Olympic sailors and recreational sailors have mixed together providing the unique atmosphere that Cowes Week is famous for. For Swan owners and sailors this event is a highlight on their yachting calendar.

This year there are a host of Swan yachts entered into Cowes Week ranging from Swan 411, Accomplice owned by Ray Mitchell up to Swan 65, Desperado, owned by Richard Loftus. Desperado recently raced in the Round Island Race in June which sees yachts sails around the Isle of Wight finishing in third in class.

Swan 37, Jacobite, owned by Stephen James has an envious racing pedigree having won the prestigious Swan Cup trophy at the exclusive bi-annual Swan regatta in 2006 and most recently having won their class in the Round the Island Race. Another Swan to watch will be the Swan 45, Wisc, having won the IRC National Championships earlier this year and will be racing for a podium finish.

Nautor’s Swan provides six challenge events throughout the year across the globe for Swan owners through prestigious international events. The winner of the North European Challenge will be presented with the stunning Asprey trophy at a private prize giving at Asprey London. The winner and guests will also be treated to a tour of the esteemed store and historic on site silver workshop in use today.

The remaining 2010 Swan Challenge’s will be run through the following events;
Swan Baltic Sea Challenge – Swan exclusive event – 15 – 18 September
Swan Mediterranean Challenge – Les voiles de St Tropez – 26 Sept - 3 Oct
Swan Transatlantic Challenge – World Cruising Club ARC Rally – 21 November
