SWAN'S FLOCK TO 2010 SWAN EAST AMERICAN CHALLENGE

Swan yachts are flocking to participate in the Newport – Bermuda Race, 18 June, which forms the Swan East American Challenge this year. The 635 nautical mile ocean race allows Swan yachts to compete in the oldest offshore yachting race whilst competing against each other.

This year the race has over twenty one Swan yachts entered in the historic race which originally started in 1906. The race will see yachts racing offshore from the start line in Narragansett Bay, RI straight out into the North Atlantic Ocean to Bermuda. The ocean temperatures are cool in this area which often results in visibility being cut to a boat length, creating challenging racing conditions in fog which the area is famous for.

The Swan’s entered into the race include a CS 42, four Swan 56’s one Swan 57 with the largest of the Swan fleet being a Swan 70. This year the Newport- Bermuda race will be expecting about 200 yachts to compete, with over 20% of entries being the elegant Swan yachts. All Swan yachts this year will be competing for the prestigious Swan East American Challenge trophy. The impressive silver Asprey trophy will be presented at the Swan Owners Association Newport – Bermuda Dinner, in the Hamilton Princess Hotel on Thursday 24 June.
